SCHEDULING FOR INSTRUCTION

The St. Martin Parish School Board directs that scheduling of classes will be conducted so as to enhance instructional programs on all levels.  The minimum length of the school day shall comply with daily instructional time requirements found in state law and regulations of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).  Directives regarding the beginning and ending times for the school day shall be a part of the school calendar approved by the Board and sent to schools each year.

Middle and high schools shall operate and conduct a sufficient number of classes per school day that will allow for the earning of Carnegie units as outlined in state regulations.

HIGH SCHOOLS SENIORS

Seniors who have successfully completed all requirements through their junior year will be allowed to make one of the following choices:

  1. Be a full-time student; that is, take the required number of subjects, every day for the full school year.

  2. Attend school for one-half of the school year.  This will only be allowed if a student has attained a full credit in American History prior to his/her senior year and can schedule four (4) courses in which he/she can earn one-half (½) of a credit during the first semester of the senior year.

    1. Mid-term graduates shall be allowed to participate in graduation exercises in the spring.

    2. Mid-term graduates are not eligible to hold offices in clubs or organizations that are organized on a full-year basis and will not be eligible for honors that are given after mid-term.

  1. Be a part-time student for a full school year; that is, attend school for either two or three periods each day.

In order for a student to be allowed to go part-time he/she must meet the following conditions:

    1. Apply with the school principal or the guidance counselor giving the reasons for wanting to become a part-time student.  Only reasons such as work and college/trade school will be considered for approval.

    2. Written verification for reason must be given to the school by the employer (for work) or the school.

    3. A parent or guardian must come to the school with the student applying for the part-time program, in order to sign a written agreement stating that the student will attend school regularly, leave the immediate school campus as soon as the school day ends, will not return or hang around the school campus after completing the school day, and be subjected to all rules and policies established by the St. Martin Parish School Board and the school which he/she attends.
