An employee is allowed to accumulate two years of annual leave to his/her credit at any given time.

To obtain annual leave that exceeds five (5) work days, employees shall first obtain approval from their respective immediate supervisors.  An annual leave request form must be completed and signed by the immediate supervisor and Superintendent before the leave is officially granted.  Employees requesting annual leave of five (5) days or longer shall request such leave at least one month in advance of requested leave.  If annual leave is required as per a major life event such as a wedding, high school reunion, graduation, or unforeseen circumstances such as the death of a family member, the Superintendent and immediate supervisor may consider requests on an individual basis.  Annual leave must be coordinated with the employee’s immediate supervisor to avoid multiple annual leave requests during peak performance periods (i.e., during the summer).  A calendar within each department shall be maintained to avoid duplicated annual leave requests.

PAYMENT OF UNUSED ANNUAL LEAVE

Any unused annual leave at the time of separation (termination, resignation, retirement, entrance into DROP, or death) shall be paid to the employee or his/her heirs on or before the next regular payday for the pay cycle during which the employee was working at the time of separation or no later than fifteen (15) days following the date of separation, whichever occurs first, at the employee's daily rate of pay.
