OVERTIME COMPENSATION

The St. Martin Parish School Board shall require eligible employees to be paid for any work beyond forty (40) hours per week.  Overtime shall be paid at the rate of one and one-half (12) times the employee's regular hourly rate.  Hours worked shall mean the actual hours worked during the work week, excluding vacation, holiday, and sick leave.

The eligible employee's immediate supervisor will approve up to but not more than five (5) hours of overtime work per month.  Overtime work in excess of 5 hours per month shall be approved by the Superintendent or designee prior to the work being performed, except in emergencies.  Eligible employees who can reasonably expect to work overtime for any period shall present to their immediate supervisor or the Superintendent, as the case may be, an authorization form that estimates the amount of overtime to be worked, the proposed dates for said overtime work, and a brief statement regarding the need for work beyond the weekly forty (40) hours.  Said form shall be signed and dated by the eligible employee and presented to his/her immediate supervisor or the Superintendent, as the case may be, for approval.  All such approvals, whether by the immediate supervisor or the Superintendent, shall be in writing.  Other than in times of emergency, a failure to request and to receive written authorization prior to performing any overtime work may result in discipline, up to and including termination.

The St. Martin Parish School Board directs that eligible support personnel not engaged in public safety or emergency response activities who have accrued over 240 approved hours of compensatory time shall be paid overtime compensation for the additional overtime hours of work, in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Eligible employees are defined as those employees who have been classified as nonexempt for purposes of overtime compensation in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
