SCHOOL BOARD MISSION STATEMENT
The St. Martin Parish School Board believes that the primary purpose of the St. Martin Parish Schools is to meet the educational needs of all students. The School Board shall emphasize the recognition and development of each student's potential so that his/her life in a democratic society will be meaningful, productive, and enjoyable.
The School Board believes that each person should be accepted into the educational program on his/her own merits. A stimulating environment should be provided with opportunities for learning experiences designed to promote behavioral development that is most likely to result in continuing satisfactory adjustments to life. The School Board believes that an atmosphere conducive to learning must be present in every school and that the classroom atmosphere must be free of disruptions, both internal and external.
The School Board believes that all students must be active participants in the learning process, and that teachers, principals, and staff members must be accountable for providing educational opportunities which are both appropriate and challenging to all students, beginning with preschool students up to and including the adults enrolled in the continuing education program.
The School Board further believes that this accountability must be shared with the parents, since they are ultimately responsible for the growth, development, and general welfare of the child. In the practical application of this philosophy, opportunities shall be provided to each student within the limits of his/her capacity:
To obtain an education, considering his/her personal interests, abilities, and needs.
To learn the skills of becoming a functional citizen in a democratic society (people skills).
To develop emotionally, morally, and socially so that he/she is increasingly able to cope with life's problems and successes.
To develop lifelong habits which will help to ensure a healthy mind and body.
In order to ensure that students become well-rounded, thinking adults, the School Board believes that a fundamental program of instruction in every school should be uniform in scope and sequence, yet flexible and diverse enough to be tailored to the individual student's interest, community trends, and teacher/staff skills. The School Board's ultimate goal, therefore, is to educate the citizens of St. Martin Parish, using all available facilities and resources to their maximum.
