ST. MARTIN PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

SPECIAL MEETING

FEBRUARY 19, 2014 – 5:00 P.M.

BREAUX BRIDGE, LOUISIANA

MINUTES

 

The St. Martin Parish School Board met this day with the following members present:  Messrs., Russel C. Foti, President, Steve Fuselier, Aaron Flegeance, James Blanchard, Frederic Stelly, Floyd Knott, Mark Hebert and Ms. Wanda Babin.

 

ABSENT:       Mr. Robert E. Hollier and Mr. Richard Potier

 

On the motion of Mr. Blanchard, seconded by Mr. Fuselier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following consent agenda items:

 

a)    Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, The Cecil J. Picard Center for Child Development and Lifelong Learning, and the St. Martin Parish School System

b)    Resolution expressing the condolences of the entire school system to the family of Virginia Olivier (attached as Exhibit A)

 

ABSENT:       Mr. Hollier and Mr. Potier

 

On the motion of Mr. Blanchard, seconded by Mr. Hebert, and unanimously carried, the Board went into Executive Session.

 

ABSENT:       Mr. Hollier

 

On the motion of Mr. Potier, seconded by Mr. Flegeance, and unanimously carried, the Board came out of Executive Session.

 

ABSENT:       Mr. Hollier

 

A motion was made by Mr. Fuselier and seconded by Mr. Stelly to follow the recommendation of the administration regarding Student A.

 

A substitute motion was made by Mr. Potier and seconded by Mr. Flegeance to allow Student A to return to his/her regular school setting, effective immediately. The substitute motion was voted on and failed, as follows:

 

FOR:              Mr. Flegeance and Mr. Potier

OPPOSED:    Mr. Fuselier, Ms. Babin, Mr. Blanchard, Mr. Stelly, Mr. Knott, and Mr. Hebert

ABSENT:       Mr. Hollier

 

The original motion was then voted on and carried, as follows:

 

FOR:     Mr. Fuselier, Ms. Babin, Mr. Blanchard, Mr. Stelly, Mr. Knott, and Mr. Hebert

OPPOSED:   Mr. Flegeance and Mr. Potier

ABSENT:       Mr. Hollier

 

A motion was made by Mr. Blanchard and seconded by Ms. Babin to follow the recommendation of the administration regarding Student B.

 

A substitute motion was made by Mr. Potier and seconded by Mr. Fuselier to allow Student B to return to his/her regular school setting, effective immediately.  The substitute motion was voted on and failed, as follows:

 

FOR:             Mr. Fuselier, Mr. Flegeance, and Mr. Potier

OPPOSED:    Ms. Babin, Mr. Blanchard, Mr. Stelly, Mr. Knott, and Mr. Hebert

ABSENT:       Mr. Hollier

 

The original motion was then voted on and carried, as follows:

 

FOR:             Mr. Fuselier, Ms. Babin, Mr. Blanchard, Mr. Stelly, Mr. Knott, and Mr. Hebert

OPPOSED:   Mr. Flegeance and Mr. Potier

ABSENT:       Mr. Hollier

 

On the motion of Blanchard, seconded by Mr. Potier, and unanimously carried, the Board adjourned.
