ST. MARTIN PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

SPECIAL MEETING

MARCH 17, 2010 – 5:00 P.M.

BREAUX BRIDGE, LOUISIANA

M I N U T E S

The St. Martin Parish School Board met this day with the following members present: Messrs., Aaron Flegeance, President, Floyd Knott, Mark Hebert, James Blanchard, Steve Fuselier, Richard Potier, Rodney Ledoux, and Ms. Wanda Babin and Mrs. Barbara Latiolais.

ABSENT:               Mr. Frederick Stelly

Superintendent Lavergne opened the meeting with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

On the motion of Mr. Blanchard, seconded by Mr. Ledoux, and unanimously carried, consider and/or approve the appointment for the Breaux Bridge High School Head Football Coach position was added to the agenda.

ABSENT:               Mr. Stelly

Superintendent Lavergne informed the Board Mr. Paul Broussard was his recommendation for the position of Head Football Coach at Breaux Bridge High School.  On the motion of Mr. Blanchard, seconded by Mr. Potier, and unanimously carried, the Board appointed Mr. Paul Broussard as the Head Football Coach at Breaux Bridge High School.

ABSENT:               Mr. Stelly

On the motion of Mr. Blanchard, seconded by Mrs. Latiolais, and unanimously carried, the Board went into Executive Session.

ABSENT:               None

On the motion of Mr. Potier, seconded by Mr. Blanchard, and unanimously carried, the Board came out of Executive Session.

On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Potier, and carried, the Board approved to reinstate denied credits due to excessive absences for Students A, B, and C.

OPPOSED:             Mr. Blanchard

ABSTAINED:       Mr. Hebert

On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mrs. Latiolais, and carried, the Board approved to follow the recommendation of the administration regarding Student A.

OPPOSED:             Mr. Potier

A motion was made by Mr. Potier and seconded by Ms. Babin to allow Student B to return back to school.  The motion was then voted on and failed, as follows:

FOR:                       Mr. Knott, Mr. Potier, and Ms. Babin

OPPOSED:             Mr. Hebert, Mr. Blanchard, Mrs. Latiolais, Mr. Fuselier, and Mr. Ledoux

ABSTAINED:       Mr. Stelly

On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Blanchard, and carried, the Board approved to follow the recommendation of the administration regarding Student B.

OPPOSED:             Mr. Potier and Ms. Babin

ABSTAINED:       Mr. Stelly

A motion was made by Mr. Fuselier and seconded by Mrs. Latiolais to follow the recommendation of the administration regarding Student C.

A substitute motion was made by Mr. Ledoux and seconded by Mr. Potier to send Student C to JCEP for a period of four (4) weeks with the opportunity to return to school with good behavior at the discretion of the principal.  The substitute motion unanimously carried.

On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Knott, and unanimously carried, the Board adjourned.
