ST. MARTIN PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

SPECIAL MEETING

JANUARY 20, 2009 - 5:00 P.M.

BREAUX BRIDGE, LOUISIANA

M I N U T E S

The St. Martin Parish School Board met this day with the following members present: Messrs., Mark Hebert, President, Floyd Knott, Steve Fuselier, James Blanchard, Aaron Flegeance, Richard Potier, Rodney Ledoux and Mrs. Barbara Latiolais and  Ms. Wanda Babin.

ABSENT:               Mr. Frederic Stelly

Superintendent Lavergne opened the meeting with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

On the motion of Mr. Blanchard, seconded by Mr. Potier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved a resolution for a new bond issue to fund a construction and capital projects program as described in the resolution, including project modifications recommended by Principals and Administration for Cecilia Primary, Breaux Bridge Elementary, and Breaux Bridge Junior High (attached as Exhibit A).

ABSENT:               None

On the motion of Mr. Blanchard, seconded by Mr. Fuselier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved to call for a Bond Election on Saturday, April 4, 2009.

On the motion of Mr. Blanchard, seconded by Mr. Flegeance, and unanimously carried, the Board went into Executive Session.

On the motion of Mr. Blanchard, seconded by Mr. Flegeance, and unanimously carried, the Board came out of Executive Session.

A motion was made by Mr. Blanchard, and seconded by Mr. Flegeance, to follow the recommendation of the administration regarding the student discussed in Executive Session.

Mr. Potier made a substitute motion, seconded by Mr. Stelly, to give the student a nine (9) day out-of- school suspension.  The substitute motion was then voted on and failed, as follows:

FOR:                       Mr. Potier, Mr. Ledoux, and Mr. Stelly

OPPOSED:             Mr. Knott, Mr. Fuselier, Mr. Blanchard, Mrs. Latiolais,

Mr. Flegeance, and Ms. Babin

The original motion was then voted on and carried.

OPPOSED:                Mr. Potier, Mr. Ledoux, and Mr. Stelly

On the motion of Mr. Blanchard, seconded by Mrs. Latiolais, and unanimously carried, the Board adjourned.
