ST. MARTIN PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

SPECIAL MEETING

DECEMBER 17, 2008 - 5:00 P.M.

BREAUX BRIDGE, LOUISIANA

M I N U T E S

The St. Martin Parish School Board met this day with the following members present: Messrs., James Blanchard, President, Floyd Knott, Aaron Flegeance, Mark Hebert, Richard Potier, Rodney Ledoux and Mrs. Barbara Latiolais and Ms. Wanda Babin.

ABSENT:               Mr. Frederic Stelly and Mr. Steve Fuselier

Superintendent Lavergne opened the meeting with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

On the motion of Mr. Flegeance, seconded by Mr. Ledoux, and unanimously carried, the Board went into Executive Session.

On the motion of Mrs. Latiolais, seconded by Mr. Flegeance, and unanimously carried, the Board came out of Executive Session.

ABSENT:               Mr. Stelly and Mr. Fuselier

A motion was made by Mr. Flegeance and seconded by Ms. Babin to follow the recommendation of the administration regarding Student A, which involves attendance at JCEP for a period of twelve (12) weeks with a review at the end of the first nine (9) weeks.

Mr. Potier made a substitute motion to give the student a nine (9) day out-of- school suspension.  The substitute motion died for lack of a second.

The original motion was then voted on and carried.

OPPOSED:             Mr. Potier

ABSENT:               Mr. Stelly and Mr. Fuselier

A motion was made by Ms. Babin and seconded Mr. Flegeance to follow the recommendation of the administration regarding Student B, which involves attendance at JCEP for a period of twelve (12) weeks with a review at the end of the first nine (9) weeks.

A substitute motion was made by Mr. Potier and seconded by Mr. Ledoux to give the student a nine (9) day out-of-school suspension.  The substitute motion was then voted on and failed as follows:

FOR:                       Mr. Potier and Mr. Ledoux

OPPOSED:             Mr. Knott, Mr. Flegeance, Mrs. Latiolais, and Ms. Babin

ABSTAINED:       Mr. Hebert

ABSENT:               Mr. Stelly and Mr. Fuselier

The original motion was then voted on and carried.

OPPOSED:             Mr. Potier

ABSTAINED:       Mr. Hebert and Mr. Ledoux               

ABSENT:               Mr. Stelly and Mr. Fuselier

On the motion of Mr. Potier, seconded by Mr. Hebert, and unanimously carried, the Board adjourned.
