MINUTES
The St. Martin Parish School Board convened on this day at 5:00 P.M. at the Breaux Bridge Instructional Center with the following members present: Messrs., James Blanchard, President, Mark Hebert, Floyd Knott, Steve Fuselier, Aaron Flegeance, Rodney Ledoux, and Ms. Wanda Babin and Mrs. Barbara Latiolais.
ABSENT: Mr. Richard Potier and Mr. Frederic Stelly
The meeting was called to order by Mr. James Blanchard, President. Superintendent Lavergne opened the meeting with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Flegeance, and unanimously carried, Executive Session to discuss personnel issues, including employee conduct and performance (Pursuant to LSA-R.S. 42:6.1 et. seq., this item may be discussed in executive session) was added to the agenda.
ABSENT: None
On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Fuselier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the minutes of the following meetings:
a) Regular Meeting of February 13, 2008
b) Special Meeting of February 20, 2008
On the motion of Mr. Flegeance, seconded by Mr. Hebert, and unanimously carried, the Board approved disbursement of the March Sales Tax Salary Supplement in the amount of $400 to professional employees and $350 to paraprofessional employees.
On the motion of Mr. Fuselier, seconded by Mrs. Latiolais, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the proposed 2008-2009 School Calendar for St. Martin Parish Schools (attached as Exhibit A).
On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Potier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following proclamations:
a) Declaring March as School-Based Health Center Month
WHEREAS, physical and mental health care is immeasurably important to the overall well-being of the youth in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, optimal physical and mental health of our students leads to optimal academic achievement; and
WHEREAS, all youth in Louisiana deserve access to comprehensive health care; and
WHEREAS, school-based and school-linked health centers provide a vital, necessary and important link in a health care network within communities across the state of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, school-based and school-linked health centers provide accessible, affordable, quality health care and health education that improves the lives of young people and their families; and
WHEREAS, school-based and school-linked health centers are supported in many communities by parents, teachers, school administrators, and other concerned citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, the St. Martin Parish School Board, does hereby proclaim the month of March 2008 as
School-Based Health Care Month
and call upon all citizens to join with the Louisiana Assembly on School-Based Health Care and the National Assembly on School Based Health care in celebration and support of school-based health centers and its employees.
b) Declaring March as Professional Social Work Month
WHEREAS, more than 6,000 social workers in Louisiana are on the front lines in our community every day; and
WHEREAS, social workers open the doors of access and opportunity for everyone, particularly those in greatest need; and
WHEREAS, social workers use their education, professional training, and commitment to fix problems that some cannot, and which others hope will just go away; and
WHEREAS, social workers are dedicated advocates for changes in policy and legislation to strengthen the safety nets that make a critical difference to so many; and
WHEREAS, social workers are dedicated to ensuring that people of all ages, creeds, and nationalities have access to adequate social resources and services; and
WHEREAS, social workers, whether in direct practice, administration, education, research, or policy development make an impact in every community.
NOW, THEREFORE, the St. Martin Parish School Board, does hereby proclaim the month of March 2008 as
PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL WORK MONTH
in the state of Louisiana, and call upon all citizens to join with the National Association of Social Workers and NASW Louisiana Chapter in celebration and support of social workers and the social work profession.
On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Flegeance, and unanimously carried, the Board went into Executive Session.
On the motion of Mr. Hebert, seconded by Mr. Stelly, and unanimously carried, the Board came out of Executive Session.
On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Fuselier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the recommendation of the administration regarding the employee discussed in Executive Session, which involves suspension for one (1) day without pay.
On the motion of Mr. Hebert, seconded by Mr. Flegeance, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following Professional Personnel Changes:

Braithwaite, Aubrey, Science, St. Martinville Junior High; effective February 11, 2008 through May 11, 2008.

On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Fuselier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following Paraprofessional Personnel Changes:

TRANSFER:
Bob, Lori, from LPN Aide at Breaux Bridge Senior High to St. Martinville Senior High; effective March 6, 2008.

On the motion of Mr. Fuselier, seconded by Mr. Flegeance, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request for extra employment pay for Regina Guidry, Angela Toncrey, Catherine Guidry, and Theresa Blankenship for the Parks Primary After-Care Program for the month of January, 2008.
On the motion of Mr. Knott, seconded by Mr. Potier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following appointments for the 2008 Summer Drivers Education Program:

On the motion of Mr. Hebert, seconded by Mrs. Latiolais, and unanimously carried, the Board adjourned.
