ST. MARTIN PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

SPECIAL MEETING

FEBRUARY 20, 2008 – 5:00 P.M.

BREAUX BRIDGE, LOUISIANA

M I N U T E S

 

The St. Martin Parish School Board met this day with the following members present: Messrs., James Blanchard, President, Floyd Knott, Mark Hebert, Richard Potier, Rodney Ledoux, Frederic Stelly, and Mrs. Barbara Latiolais.  

 

ABSENT:               Mr. Steve Fuselier, Mr. Aaron Flegeance, and Ms. Wanda Babin

 

On the motion of Mr. Hebert, seconded by Mr. Ledoux, and unanimously carried, the Board went into Executive Session.

 

On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Stelly, and unanimously carried, the Board came out of Executive Session.

 

ABSENT:               None

 

On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Potier, and carried, the Board approved to reinstate denied credits due to excessive absences for the Fall Semester of School Year 2007-2008 for Student A.

 

ABSTAINED:        Mr. Hebert

 

A motion was made by Mr. Hebert and seconded by Mrs. Latiolais to follow the recommendation of the administration regarding Students B and C, which involves denial of participation in extracurricular activities.

 

Mr. Potier made a substitute motion to allow Students B and C to participate in extracurricular activities.  The substitute motion died for lack of a second.

 

The original motion was then voted on and carried.

 

OPPOSED:             Mr. Potier

 

A motion was made by Mr. Ledoux and seconded by Mr. Flegeance to follow the recommendation of the administration for Student D, which involves out-of-school expulsion for the remainder of the school year.

 

Mr. Potier made a substitute motion, seconded by Mr. Knott to send Student D back to JCEP with a contract allowing the student a second chance.  The substitute motion was then voted on with a result as follows:

 

FOR:                       Mr. Knott, Mr. Fuselier, Mr. Flegeance, Mr. Potier, and Ms. Babin

OPPOSED:             Mrs. Latiolais, Mr. Hebert, Mr. Ledoux, and Mr. Stelly  

 

                The President exercised his right to vote and voted in opposition to the motion.  The vote was then tied and therefore defeated.

 

The original motion was then voted on and carried as follows:

 

FOR:                       Mr. Knott, Mr. Fuselier, Mr. Flegeance, Mrs. Latiolais, Mr. Hebert,

Mr. Ledoux, and Mr. Stelly

OPPOSED:             Mr. Potier and Ms. Babin

 

On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mrs. Latiolais, and unanimously carried, the Board adjourned.
