MINUTES

 

 

The St. Martin Parish School Board convened on this day at 5:00 P.M. at the Breaux Bridge Instructional Center with the following members present:  Messrs., James Blanchard, President, Floyd Knott, Steve Fuselier, Aaron Flegeance, Mark Hebert, Richard Potier, Rodney Ledoux, Frederic Stelly, and Mrs. Barbara Latiolais and Ms. Wanda Babin.

 

ABSENT:        None

 

The meeting was called to order by Mr. James Blanchard, President.

Superintendent Lavergne opened the meeting with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

The following St. Martin Parish Teachers of the Year were honored:

The Board recessed for ten minutes.

 

On the motion of Mr. Fuselier, seconded by Mr. Ledoux, and unanimously carried, consider and/or approve a batting cage at St. Martinville Senior High was added to the agenda.

 

The Board Member’s request relative to covered walkways and seats for

St. Martinville Junior High was tabled until the next Finance Committee meeting.

 

 On the motion of Mr. Hebert, seconded by Mr. Fuselier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the minutes of the following meetings:

 

a)                  Finance Committee Meeting of September 5, 2007

b)                  Regular Meeting of September 5, 2007

c)                  Special Meeting of September 19, 2007

 

 Mr. Alfred Guidry, County Agent – Parish Chairman, and staff members presented the 2007-2008 LSU AgCenter Annual Report to the Board.

 

 Mr. Guy Cormier, Parish President, presented St. Martin Parish Government flags to the Board and the three (3) high school principals.

 

 Mr. William Trailer, a candidate for Parish Council, introduced himself to the Board.

 

 On the motion of Mr. Flegeance, seconded by Mrs. Latiolais, and unanimously carried, the Board approved disbursement of the October Sales Tax Salary Supplement in the amount of $400 for all professional and paraprofessional employees.

 

On the motion of Mr. Potier, seconded by Mr. Fuselier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request for permission to call for bids on Tires.

 

On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Fuselier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request for waiver of sales tax penalties, as recommended by administration, for Pat Huval Restaurant.

 

On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mrs. Latiolais, and unanimously carried, the Board approved renewal of the campsite leases in the Stephensville-Belle River area for a period of ten (10) years, effective 2003.

 

On the motion of Mr. Potier, seconded by Mrs. Latiolais, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following proclamation for Red Ribbon Week, October 21-27, 2007:

 

WHEREAS,     the National, State, and Parish Red Ribbon Campaign will be celebrated in every community in America ”r;Don’t Monkey around with Drugs, Red Ribbon Week”, October 21-October 27, 2007, and

 

WHEREAS,     the Children of St. Martin Parish shall serve as Honorary Chairpersons to provide this parish’s focus on a Drug Free America, and

 

WHEREAS,     business, government, law enforcement, schools, religious institutions, service organizations, youth, medical, senior citizens, military, sports teams, and individuals will demonstrate their commitment to drug free schools healthy lifestyles by wearing and displaying red ribbons during this week long campaign, and

 

WHEREAS,     the St. Martin Parish School Board further commits its resources to ensure the success of the ”r;Don’t Monkey around with Drugs!  Red Ribbon Week,”.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the St. Martin Parish School Board does hereby support October 21-October 27, 2007 as ”r;Don’t Monkey around with Drugs!  Red Ribbon Week.”, encourage its citizens to participate in drug awareness and drug education activities, making a visible statement that we are strongly committed to drug free, healthy lifestyles.

 

On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Mr. Potier, and unanimously carried, the Board Members’ requests relative to the contracts of Poche & Associates and Boudreaux and Devillier were postponed until the November meeting.

 

On the motion of Mr. Potier, seconded by Mr. Flegeance, and unanimously carried, the Board authorized the Attorney to clear the lease for the facility and property at the old Arnaudville School site and report back to the Board.

 

Mr. Alan Porter appeared before the Board to request permission to use the JCEP gym and waive the deposit and insurance fees.  On the motion of Mr. Ledoux, seconded by Ms. Babin, and unanimously carried, the Board approved to allow Mr. Porter to use the JCEP gym and follow the policy for the deposit and insurance fees. 

 

On the motion of Mr. Fuselier, seconded by Mr. Ledoux, and unanimously carried, the Board approved a batting cage for St. Martinville Senior High School.

 

On the motion of Mr. Potier, seconded by Mr. Fuselier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following Professional Personnel Changes:

On the motion of Mr. Potier, seconded by Mr. Fuselier, and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request for extra employment pay for Regina Guidry, Angela Toncrey, and Catherine Guidry for the Parks Primary After-Care Program for the month of August.

 

On the motion of Mr. Hebert, seconded by Mr. Potier, and unanimously carried, the Board adjourned.
